🌸 Spring Cleaning Your Wig Routine: How to Refresh, Revive, and Restore Your Units

🧼 1. Deep Clean & Detox

Just like our skin and natural hair, wigs need a seasonal refresh. Over time, product buildup, oils, and environmental dirt can dull the shine and weigh your wig down.

Tips:

  • Use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo specifically made for wigs or extensions.

  • Soak the unit in lukewarm water for 5-10 minutes before washing to help lift buildup.

  • Be gentle—no scrubbing or twisting! Smooth the hair downward with your fingers while cleansing.

💧 2. Hydrate & Restore Moisture

Winter can dry everything out—even your wigs. Bring moisture back to the hair fiber with a nourishing deep conditioner or wig-safe hydrating mask.

Pro tip: For raw hair units, I recommend a silicone-free conditioner to bring back softness and shine without coating the hair.

🧢 3. Check Your Cap Construction

A secure fit equals confidence. Now’s the time to inspect your bands, combs, and lace to ensure everything still fits and feels comfortable.

  • Is your elastic band still holding strong?

  • Need to replace a comb or tighten a strap?

  • Is it time to refresh your lace tint or clean up the hairline

✂️ 4. Trim, Tweak, or Restyle

Spring is a great time to reshape your unit or give it a fresh style. Maybe you’re ready for bangs, a face frame, or a shorter lob to welcome the warmer weather.

Ideas:

  • Dust off the ends to reduce shedding and tangles.

  • Re-curl or straighten with heat (on safe settings) to refresh the shape.

  • Add soft layers or a side part for something new.

🌼 5. Store It Right

Once your wig is fresh and fabulous, don’t just toss it in a drawer. Keep it in shape by storing it on a wig head or satin bag in a cool, dry area.
